"Ancient music with a new acoustic flare."
Irish Harper, Bard, and Step Dancer, Russell Brown has united with Irish Flutist and Uilleann Piper Christopher Layer! Their Irish-inspired wedding music is lighthearted, romantic, and full of the energy of love.
The lush melodies of their Irish-Scottish heritage are woven together with more familiar tunes from the American wedding tradition: for instance the ancient Irish dance tune "New Claret" dances about in counterpoint on the harp as Shubert's hauntingly beautiful "Ave Maria" threads its way along on the flute. "Ms. Thompson", a Scots Reel, introduces the beloved "Canon in D" of Johann Pachelbel.
In short, Mr. Layer and Mr. Brown have sought to create thoughtful arrangements to reflect a more informed listening audience at today's contemporary Irish or Scots wedding.
"Cultural identity, the joy of new love, and a touch of tradition: all without being heavy handed or imposing."
For centuries, pipers and harpers have served as musicians to commemorate the sacrament of marriage and celebrate the taking of vows at wedding feasts. Today, Russell Brown and Christopher Layer bring an air of tradition to that ceremonial music with the Irish Uilleann Pipes/flute and lever harp, while tracing a new path into the future of Irish music.
"Versatile, entertaining, and connected."
After 16 years living in NYC, and 13 years as the piper and flutist with the Trinity Irish Dance company, Christopher Layer enjoys the friendship and musical association many stars from the NYC Irish music community. Working frequently with those peers makes it possible to expand the duo to include fiddle, accordion, guitar, and vocals with great ease to suit the occasion.
Mr. Brown is a current member of the Dara Carr Dance Company cast, allowing him to contract a host of Irish step dancers for weddings as well!
"How can i reach them?"
